{"id":292,"date":"2020-05-20T18:24:22","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T17:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blythwood.com\/news\/?p=292"},"modified":"2020-11-30T13:07:14","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T13:07:14","slug":"vn-awareness-nurse-profile-sara-pratt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blythwood.com\/news\/vn-awareness-nurse-profile-sara-pratt\/","title":{"rendered":"VN Awareness \u2013 nurse profile Sara Pratt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, a whole month dedicated to raising awareness of the veterinary nursing profession and the vital role they play in animal care and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Sara Pratt is a Registered Veterinary Nurse here at Blythwood Vets and she kindly took time out to tell us about life as a vet nurse.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>How long have you been a Vet Nurse and what route did you follow to qualify?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have been a Vet Nurse for 20 months and I have a Level 3 Diploma<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What attracted you to a career as a Veterinary Nurse?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have always wanted a career with animals.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What does your job as a veterinary nurse entail?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>My job as a veterinary nurse entails supporting the vets, nursing care for the animals&#8217; pre- and post-surgery, monitoring anaesthetics, inpatient care and supporting the owners as well.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What is the most rewarding thing about being a Vet Nurse?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The most rewarding thing about being a Vet Nurse is caring and investing in the care of an animal and seeing them go home with a happy owner.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What kind of attributes do you need to be a good Vet Nurse?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Compassionate, caring, empathetic, organised, calm under pressure, and efficient.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What advice would you give someone thinking about a career as a Vet Nurse?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is a rewarding career, but it is very hard work and can be emotionally draining. It is not just cuddling puppies and kittens! It is a very varied day and you never know what is going to come through the door next!<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What are the best things about working at Blythwood?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The best thing about working at Blythwood are my colleagues.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What would be your career highlight so far?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Have you completed any additional training to support you in your role?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I am keeping up with my continuing professional development (CPD) courses and I am a clinical coach.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>What&#8217;s the next step in your career pathway?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Getting my Student Vet Nurse to qualify.
